Staff will need to wear our official Hi-Sierra staff uniform, which is a Venturing uniform.
Parts of the uniform
- Green Venturing uniform shirt, short-sleeved. (You'll want 1-2 of these) Each shirt, of course, will need the following patches:
- Santa Clara County Council service patch
- Unit numbers "55" or your own unit number
- World Scout crest
- Grey shoulder loops (signifying Council employees)
- Other patches are totally optional depending on your own advancement and interests, but some of these are likely to find their way onto your shirt:
- Camp Hi-Sierra patch
- Adult award knots: common ones might include Eagle Scout, Arrow of Light, and religious awards.
- Rank insignia: Venturers may have earned their Ranger, Gold, Silver, or Bronze awards.
- Grey Venturing shorts or pants (most staff members only use the shorts, you'll want 2-4 of these)
- Grey Venturing socks (you'll want 4-6 pairs of these, though there are tricks to using less if you're into that...)
- Grey Venturing belt (you'll only need one unless you plan to lose it)
Where to get it
- The South Bay Scout Shop (located in the Council office) will sell you uniform parts at a staff discount if you politely remind them that you're Hi-Sierra staff and ask for the discount. If you ask ahead of time (call or drop by), they are also able to order uniform pieces for you in advance and have them delivered to Camp - at which point you send them a check back to pay.
- Used uniforms, while very thrifty, are unfortunately very hard to find since the Venturing uniform isn't that old. Your best resource is finding past Hi-Sierra staff members who can loan/donate/sell their old uniforms.
- Uniform parts can also be purchased online at ScoutStuff.org, the offical BSA Supply division site.
