Staff FAQ

Welcome to our Staff Frequently Asked Questions page! If you're looking for the ordinary FAQ, please check out facts/faq.

  1. Do I need to fill out any medical forms before I come (so I get in to see a doctor now)?
    • Absolutely! You will need a Class 3 Medical Form! You can find the form at toolbox/forms and more information at Health forms. Please note that you will need to have a physical performed within the last 12 months of the last day you will be at Camp to ensure that your Class 3 form is current!
  1. What day do I need to be there?
    • For the 2007 Season, all staff will need to arrive by Sunday, June 17th no later than 12:00pm (noon). Area Directors and leadership staff will need to arrive on Saturday, June 16th, 2007 - contact the Program Director or Camp Director for more information.
  1. Is there any internet/phone out there?
    • No and yes, in that order. Camp Hi-Sierra is located in an extremely rural location with very poor connectivity to the outside world, and as a result staff and campers have no access to internet service of any variety. A pay phone (accepting calling cards purchasable at the Camp General Store, but NOT coins) is available, though be warned that most staff members have little free time during the day, and until around 9pm the phone is typically in heavy use by Campers, when a 5-minute limit is in effect. No cell phone carriers are known to have service in Camp. We do, however, have excellent postal service: each day our mail is brought down the hill and each day (typically) it goes out again. From the Bay Area, mail takes around 3-4 days to reach Camp Hi-Sierra.
  1. What do I need to bring?
  1. Is there a day off (time when there aren't campers there)?
    • Staff at Hi-Sierra typically have 24 hours off, from noon on Saturday each week until noon on Sunday each week. Occasionally we will get out a bit early if things go well, and rarely we might be dismissed a bit later than that. Staff under 18 may not leave Camp during this time unless they have a signed permission form on file from their parent or guardian (forms available from the Camp Director in the Staff Manual).
  1. Anything else I should know?
    • Most questions will be answered either in the Staff Manual or at the Pre-season staff meeting, where you will generally also receive the Staff Manual.
