Camp Hi-SierraFriends of

Each year, the Staff of Camp Hi-Sierra hold a meeting for all staff before Camp starts, down in San Jose. This is an important opportunity for us to meet each other, get forms for Camp, and exchange useful logistical information in advance of camp (i.e. what to pack, carpooling, etc.).

This year's pre-season All-Staff meeting will be held on Sunday, June 10th. This IS a uniform event!

Date & Time

Location

Marijane Hamann Park in San Jose - NOT the Council office.

Human-powered and Transit Directions

• Bicyclists: Get yourself to either Bascom, Winchester, or Hamilton. From Bascom, use the Downing stree overpass. From Winchester, head into the neighborhood at Greentree. Follow it until it turns and take a left onto Westfield - the park is 6 blocks down. From Hamilton, turn onto Central Ave by the turning 76 gas station ball and head up about 4 long blocks to the park.
• Light Rail: This location is 1 mile from the Bascom VTA Light Rail Station. (Walk or bike North on Bascom, turn left onto Downing, follow the overpass over the freeway, and you're there)
• Bus: It's also 1/2 mile from the #60 VTA Bus Line (get off between Payne and Williams, get to the East side of Winchester, and head into the neighborhood at Greentree. Follow it until it turns and take a left onto Westfield. Walk down about 6 blocks to the park.)
• Pedestrians: It also has its very own pedestrian/bike bridge over the freeway (Downing Ave from Bascom).

Dino-burning Directions

• From South San Jose, take Hwy 85 North to Hwy 17 North. Exit at Hamilton Ave, turn left twice to end up on Hamilton Ave headed West.
• From North San Jose or Milpitas, take I-880 South until just after the I-280 exchange. Exit I-880 at Hamilton Ave in the rightmost lane, and turn right to end up on Hamilton Ave headed West.
• From East San Jose or Downtown, take I-280 North to Hwy-17 South (towards Santa Cruz). Exit I-880 at Hamilton Ave in the rightmost lane, and turn right to end up on Hamilton Ave headed West.

From All Cars Above turn RIGHT onto Central Ave (almost immediately after you get off the freeway - it's right after the Elephant Bar on the right-hand side by the giant orange turning 76 gas station ball. (If you hit Winchester, you went too far! Hang a quick right on Winchester and follow the directions below.) Follow Central into the neighborhood past several stop signs, speed bumps, and roundabouts (whee!). The park will be on your right side - park along the first park edge you see.

• From West San Jose, Saratoga, Santa Clara, Cupertino, etc. take your choice of street (Saratoga Ave, Doyle Rd/San Tomas Aquino Rd, San Tomas Expy, or Winchester Blvd) to get to Payne Ave. Take Payne EAST towards Winchester. Cross Winchester at the light (keep going straight on Payne) and keep going past 3-4 stop signs until Payne hits a T in the neighborhood at Alamarida Dr. Take a left and you'll see the park.

What to wear

Your uniform - perhaps with a T-shirt underneath in case we get to playing an energetic game.

What to bring

• A lawn/camping chair if you like (we'll be outdoors on grass)
• Hat & Sunscreen and/or sun umbrella (we may end up in the sun, though we'll try for shade)
• Any sort of field sports-ish ball or disc you like (for those who like to stay, a pick-up frisbee game starts in the park at 5pm)
• A refillable water bottle
• Perhaps copies of your employment IDs for Emile
• Sign up with Nick if you can bring:
  • a cooler of something to drink (i.e. mix up some lemonade or ice water)
  • a pop-up tent for a sign-up area
  • extra frisbees
  • cones
