Flowers and slopes

This is from the 2004 season of Base Camp (now known as the Trekking program), taken (on film!) in the SoFoStan basin. This is a personal favorite of mine, as 2004 was a great year for wildflowers up in that area (late and heavy snowmelt kept things growing late). You're looking more or less North towards the ridge with Herring Creek Road on it, across the South Fork of the Stansilaus River, which would be in the canyon between the flowers and the granite slopes.

Trekking Packing List

«

Whether you're headed up to Camp Hi-Sierra's Boy Scout summer camp program or its Trekking program, you'll want to plan ahead to pack what you need and leave behind what you don't!

General Camp Hi-Sierra Boy Scout Packing List

Bring

  • Sleeping bag comfortable down to at least 40 degrees Fahrenheit (we recommend a 10-20 degree F bag) or any combination of blankets to do the same job
  • Sleeping pad and/or mattress - keep it simple, you'll have to hike it up to your campsite!
  • Hiking boots - be sure they are broken in and ready!

Leave at home

  • All electronics

OOC

«

Whether you feel it stands for Out of Camp, Out of Control, or even Off of (the) Charts, OOC is shorthand for our most intense level of program activity at Camp Hi-Sierra. You know when you're cooking from a recipe that tells you to use a tablespoon of something tasty, but you say "No way! I need WAY more than that!" - yeah, that's you, going O-O-C! Ooook! This stuff is WILD!
